Healing Trauma Through the Body

Compassionate counselling using a body-based approach to healing, integration and transformation.

Trauma, grief and major life transitions can leave us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from ourselves, and unsure how to move forward. Sometimes we understand what has happened to us, yet still carry distress that words alone cannot fully express.

I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space where healing can unfold at your own pace.

While suffering often arises from our attempts to escape pain, healing begins when we find the courage to approach it with curiosity, compassion and support. I am here to walk alongside you through this process.

Through Embodied Trauma Integration, a somatic approach to counselling, we work with the connection between your body, emotions and inner world, supporting the integration of painful experiences and creating the conditions for lasting transformation.

Based in Cape Town's Southern Suburbs, I work with adults in person and online across South Africa, with a particular focus on supporting women.

My Approach

I believe that our bodies carry both our wounds and our wisdom.

At the heart of my work is Embodied Trauma Integration, a somatic experiential approach that supports the healing and integration of unresolved traumatic experiences. Through curious and compassionate attention to the body's inner experience, clients are invited to journey inward, listen to what is seeking expression, and allow it to unfold. Emotions, bodily sensations, memories, images and spontaneous healing responses become pathways through which the body can express, release and integrate unresolved burdens, reconnecting people with their innate capacity for healing and transformation.

Alongside this, I offer a compassionate and non-judgemental space for reflection, exploration and meaning-making. Healing often involves making sense of our experiences and discovering new ways of relating to ourselves and the challenges we face.

As healing unfolds, people frequently reconnect not only with what has been wounded, but also with the strengths, wisdom, creativity and possibilities that exist within them. Drawing on solution-focused and imaginative approaches, I support clients to reconnect with these inner resources, envision who they are becoming, and take meaningful steps towards the life they wish to create.

Rather than following a predetermined formula, I trust the wisdom of the process and work collaboratively with clients to support what is needed in each moment.

Meet Dr Kim Wale

I am a Specialist Wellness Counsellor, researcher, author, wife and mother based in Tokai, Cape Town.

Alongside my counselling practice, I am a researcher and author whose work explores trauma, healing, identity transformation and matrescence — the profound process of becoming a mother. My professional practice has been shaped by both academic research and my own encounters with life's challenges, transitions and periods of growth. These have shaped my appreciation for the courage it takes to face uncertainty and the ways our relationships, identities and life experiences shape who we become.

I offer a warm, non-judgemental and collaborative space where clients can explore life's challenges at their own pace. Whether you are navigating loss, trauma, motherhood, relationship difficulties, burnout, questions of identity, or a period of significant transition, my role is to accompany you with curiosity, compassion and respect for your unique journey.

Individual Counselling

I offer one-to-one counselling sessions in my peaceful home office in Tokai, as well as online. Together we create a supportive and confidential space where you can explore life's challenges, reconnect with yourself, and move towards healing and growth.

People seek counselling for many different reasons, including trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, burnout, questions of identity, and periods of significant transition. Through compassionate exploration, embodied therapeutic work and future-oriented approaches, I support clients to heal the burdens they carry from the past and discover who they are becoming.

Embodying Transformation

Experiences of self-expansion and connection to something larger than the individual self can arise through transformative practices and life experiences, including Biodanza, breathwork, spiritual practice, profound healing experiences and major life transitions.

While these experiences can be deeply meaningful, they can also awaken emotions, memories, questions and new possibilities that take time to integrate. Through embodied therapeutic work, we return to the felt experience in the body, allowing the deeper healing and transformative potential of these experiences to unfold and become embodied in everyday life.

Alchemical Matrescence Journey

Motherhood is one of life's most profound transformations. As old identities dissolve and new ways of being emerge, many women find themselves navigating a period of uncertainty, loss, growth and becoming.

The Alchemical Matrescence Journey is a group process that uses the seven stages of the alchemical journey as a map for navigating this transition. Through reflection, dialogue, embodied practices and creative exploration, mothers are supported to grieve what has been left behind, reclaim inner resources, and consciously embody the mother they are becoming.
